Bethany Baptist was formerly pastored by Dr. Chuck Fuller, longtime friend and colleague of Garrison, who has taken a full time teaching position at Anderson University in Anderson, SC.  Dr. Fuller served as Bethany’s pastor for over 6 years.

Garrison has preached once before at Bethany.  He filled the pulpit back in November 2009 while Dr. Fuller was taking a sabbatical.

Garrison is one of six candidates for the interim pastor.  Others include two faculty members at Southern Seminary and a denominational leader with the Kentucky Baptist Convention.  The final decision will be announced mid-September after all six candidates have preached and met with the search committee.

August 5:  January Bible Study Preview: Galatians at Campbellsville University.  Garrison will be two sessions on Galatians 3 -4 helping pastors and teachers dissect this important New Testament Book.

August 22: Garrison will be preaching @ Bethany Baptist Church, Louisville, KY.  Garrison is being considered for Bethany’s interim pastor.

September 11:  KBC Super Saturday, Williamsburg. Garrison will be working with Sunday school leaders and teachers in 3 workshops entitled Great Expectations for Sunday School, Moving Attenders from Spectators to Participants, and Reaching Adults for My Class.

September 13: Garrison will be presenting for the Campbellsville Univ. School of Theology Biblical and Theological Lecture Series. His paper topic is “Postmodernity and the Shift in Millennial Christianity.”

September 18:  KBC Super Saturday, Bowling Green. Garrison will be leading two deacon ministry sessions entitled Deacon Teams and Healthy Conflict Management.

September 23-24: Campbellsville Univ. Pastors and Church Leaders Conference.  Garrison will be leading a workshop entitled “Leadership Across the Generations” along with Dr. Ted Taylor.

October 5 – 9: Garrison will be leading a group of students to the Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, GA.

October 16: Garrison will be preaching at the annual Youth Revival hosted by St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Columbia, KY.

The event will be held Thursday, August 5 from 1 till 8 PM in the Winters Banquet Hall on the campus of Campbellsville University.

This year’s preview will focus on the New Testament book of Galatians.  Many Southern Baptist Churches will teach the book during their winter Bible study season.

Garrison will be presenting chapters 3 & 4.  Other presenters include School of Theology faculty members Dr. John Hurtgen, Dean & professor of New Testament, and Dr. Ted Taylor, professor of Christian Studies.

Dr. James Carroll

Parkway called Dr. James Carroll to be their new senior pastor.  Dr. Carroll was previously teaching pastor at West Hills Church in Villa Rica, GA, a suburb of Atlanta.  Carroll is a native of Belfry, KY and a graduate of Eastern KY University and Southern Seminary.  He is married to Mikila and they have two children.

Parkway BC is located just off the Bluegrass Parkway, south of Lexington in Nelson County.  The church is just a mile south of the Stephen Foster State Park and My Old Kentucky Home.  The church averages 750+ in worship and has an active ministry approach with children and families.  The church is 14 years old.

Dr. Ted Taylor, transitional pastor of CBC, has been overwhelmingly pleased with Maple Trail’s continued efforts. “If you think about what a church might need in way of administration or ministry development over the course of a two year period, Maple Trail has provided nearly all of that for us.”

In actuality, it has been more like 14 months since Columbia Baptist Church and Maple Trail began their ministry relationship.

It started in February 2009 when Maple Trail was asked to lead the church through a 6-week stewardship emphasis including stewardship preaching, a 5-week Sunday school emphasis, personal finance seminars and private financial counseling for families and individuals.  Additionally, the church requested Maple Trail’s church administration consultant Phillip Brunner to take a look at church giving records and financial trends to help the Stewardship Committee.  This initial consultation formed a strong relationship and trust within the church.

In the summer months, Maple Trail was asked to return to help the church Personnel Committee update job descriptions and complete compensation studies for all staff positions.

Then again in October, Maple Trail president and lead consultant Dr. Shane Garrison spent three months with the Constitution and By-Law Committee revamping a 30-year old document.  The completely revised document went into action January 1st.

Then again in February 2010 was asked to support the church with the Find It Here initiative, a Kentucky Baptist Convention initiative to invite every Kentuckian to worship on Easter Sunday, and strategically develop the Sunday school.  Garrison again helped the church implement a new member curriculum, conducted two teacher training events, and created a working strategy for Sunday school growth.

There is little doubt that Columbia Baptist Church has been the most supportive church of Maple Trail Ministry Consultants.  With four consultations behind them, who knows what the future may hold.

Columbia Baptist kicked off Find It Here this past Sunday with a revival service that runs through Wednesday. KBC President Don Mathis is serving as evangelist.

And the church has invited the entire town—literally.

On the Friday and Saturday prior, several ladies in the church called every name in the Columbia phone book, inviting them to the church’s Find It Here revival. “That’s pretty aggressive outreach for a little town in Kentucky,” Taylor said.

They also have gotten the word out over the airwaves. Columbia Baptist’s Find It Here lay leader Kevin Jenkins used his disc jockey experience to put together a couple of 60-second radio spots which have been running regularly. He also has been making the rounds doing interviews at local stations.

Taylor said the church is pushing Find It Here so hard because “if we don’t take the gospel to the whole community, who’s going to do it?”

Columbia Baptist even has brought in a consultant to evaluate the church’s Sunday school classes “to position (them) for growth after Find It Here,” Taylor noted.

Campbellsville University School of Theology Professor Shane Garrison has been working with the church for several weeks now observing Sunday school to determine “what we need to do to reorganize and kind of get us unstuck so that we can follow up Find It Here with Sunday school growth,” noted Taylor, who also teaches at Campbellsville’s theology school.

Noting that Kentucky Baptists are in need of such an aggressive evangelistic effort as Find It Here, Taylor said he wants to see Columbia Baptist and others do everything they can to make the campaign a success.
